Fire Island
This is Barrett Beach, taken in 2005 on the bayside of Fire Island at this time of year (November).
It is no longer called Barrett Beach, but took the name of the larger area which is part of the National Seashore. It's all Talisman.

the Casino, Davis Park
The only ocean-front restaurant on Fire Island is in Davis Park. It's called "the Casino", no gambling, just food and drinks.
It's a restaurant and bar, and on summer weekends has live music.

Swim Flags
Swim in the green...
Another person died this week at the beach here on Long island. Every year people drown in the ocean off Fire Island. Sometimes the waves and rip-currents are too strong and people aren't prepared. There are no lifeguards in some areas. Swim in the green flagged areas!

Muttontown Preserve
Muttontown Preserve
This was my first visit to the Muttontown Preserve.
We went to the Preserve today to take photos of wildflowers and were disappointed.
The drought has the meadow very brown and dry and almost void of flowers.

Ground Zero
On Long Island, we are so close to the center of activity, New York City.
A recent birthday gift was a night in the Millennium Hotel.
This is the view from the 17th floor, overlooking Ground Zero. Fisheye lens was used.
Fire Island Swale
Swale: Depressed area on Fire Island between the two sand dunes.
It is used as a road for emergency and service vehicles.
As we were walking back to the boat, storm clouds looked ominous.
